EXHIBITION - “RESILIENCE”
Featuring photography by Nicola Davison Reed and Lauren Corless
A FOREWORD BY CURATORS STEVEN PATEY COLTON AND CAROLE CANE
“We were looking for work that encapsulates how artists have worked through the periods of lockdown in 2020-21. Many photographers are freelance and have not been earning an income or getting any government support. Resilience is what all artists have to show in order to practice. It’s part of the DNA of working in the creative industries. What we think this snapshot of two artist’s work represents is the reflective thoughts of individuals who have to come to terms with restricted movement and the uncertainty of how a health crisis will affect them and their family.
Resilience can be built by practicing, creating and reflecting on the meaning of art.
Resilience is a trait of the people of Sheffield. They get on with things and make the best of any given adverse situation.
This exhibition is a small part of the latest opportunity to regenerate a part of the city that has seen a rapid decline in fortune. We hope these photographs inspire you to enter the open photo competition that follows on from this one at ASK/Kommune during the Autumn season.”
This exhibition is supported by Sheffield City Council and Kurious Arts.
